Gwang Ju

This past weekend our roomate Ashley invited us to her parents house in Gwang Ju. Her father is a Two Star Major General in the Korean Army..(yeah..I was reminded of that tv show major Dad too!) a position that comes with many perks...including three houses, and four soldiers that cook, clean, drive and watch an entrance gate for them. We had an amazing time.

Her father secured a private meeting with a Buddist Monk, which was spectacular. Then we ate lunch with the monks. They are vegetarian so we had a curry dish, that was so delicious! After eating at a temple you do your own dishes, ...down in a cool basement. It was a nice escape from the heat, and for some reason, doing the dishes as SO fun!!

Then we toured the temple, and Ashelys father taught us a bit about the history of Buddism, and the traditions within the temple.

Then we headed to Ashleys house...where we stayed alone in their second house...AMAZING, we had so much SPACE! It was awesome. They have a yard, and we saw stars for the first time since April!

After having dinner at the Major Generals restaurant with the family, the soliders took us out...ordered to be our body guards, and show us a good time.

Do you think you could get your roomies dad to order the army guys to escort you back home and cook and clean for you in 8 months? THAT would be something! Sounds like a very cool life your ashley grew up with!

Hey, how come you never have photos of the monks? Are you allowed to take the pictures or no?
and what about pictures of inside the temples and things? That would be neat to see too, but I don't know if you are allowed to take the pictures or not?

Hey hooch...

Looks like we won't be seeing each other before I leave this country. That's cool. It was my plan all along. We're taking off this Sunday!
Listened to the new J.T. single, and didn't think of you.
Hope you have a good time skankin' it up in Malaysia...
